Acknowledgments First of all I would like to thank my supervisor Prof. Dr. Hermann Kopetz for his support and advice on my work. As head of the Institute of Computer Engineering he provided me with the fruitful environment of our research group and the resources that were necessary to write this habilitation thesis. for proofreading and comments on the introduction.
